Ça va me changer de mon alien shozy...i'd say it's a more neutral, natural, organic player. It's not an analytical sound. From memory, it retains the smooth sound of the M3 to a good degree, although I haven't A/B'ed them yet.
I just got the Cayin N5 in for testing yesterday, and I listened to the same album (Bruce Dickinson - Chemical Wedding) with the RHA S500i I also have in for testing. M2 was more laid back. N5 was more energetic.
I think it's hard for people to get a good feel for the Shanling sound with a brief listen. The sound doesn't jump out and grab you immediately. It grows on you. After awhile it clicks, and you get it. At least that was my experience with the M3, and I do think the M2 will be a similar experience for people in that regard.
